The Combine, among other things, disrupted my posting of Larry Michael’s interviews with the team’s new coaches, and that just didn’t seem right. So here are the last three:
Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan:

Gary Fitzgerald has a breakdown of what Shanahan has to say, but here was the quote that I found most intriguing:
“I’ve been [calling plays] for two years, and I feel calling plays is about preparation,” he said. “I’m not going to sit there and go completely off stats–you’re going to study all week and you have to get a feel for their defensive coordinator, and you have to try think like him.“I just want to watch and watch it until I know it and I can feel it. And you kind of get a hunch of what they’re thinking and you try to roll with it.”
It’s been a long time since I felt like a Redskins play-caller was really getting into the head of the opponent, so this sounds pretty good to me. Shanahan is an up-and-coming coach in this league, and I look forward to seeing what he can do.
Two more, after the jump.
QB coach Matt LaFleur:

An excerpt: “I called Todd Collins when I first got here and was mentioning to him how I had watched him when I was in high school when he was at the University of Michigan.” Which means, of course, that LaFleur is another young coach — and another up-and-comer. He seems to be Kyle Shanahan’s right-hand-man, to a certain extent, and it’ll be interesting to see if they can replicate their success from the Texans here.
LB coach Lou Spanos:

And, again, an excerpt — this one for those of you who are worried about London Fletcher‘s role in the new-look Redskins defense: “I’ve been following London for a while now, since he was playing at Buffalo and before that with St. Louis. London’s an excellent player. He plays with passion, great bend, high motor, great instincts; he’s really what you want in an inside backer and I’m looking forward to meeting him and coaching with him.”
